I installed Revit 2011 right when we got it but I seem to get between 4 and 5 fatal errors a day now. It usually lets me save a recovery file but its still very frustrating...has anyone else had this issue? Anything I can do beside beg my boss for a new computer?

What's your old computer look like?

Sorry About that, I meant to copy it in but forgot.

P4 3.0 ghz CPU
4 gigs of ram (only uses ~3.5 because I'm on 32 bit XP)
Win XP 32 Bit service pack 3
NVIDIA Quadro FX 1400

Thats right around the specs on my PC that i used right through Beta Testing, besides a much different video card.

What sized model are you trying to work in? With a machine of those specs, youre going tobe limited in what you can do with anything post 2009. BUT, if it were crashing due to insufficient memory, i think it would fail to generate the recovery file. My old 32 bit stations always generated a useless 12kb recovery file when they were memory related crashes, or they just vanished off the screen without a save option.

Id be checking your Video card compatibility.

I don't think the model is very big. Its only about 25 mb. Its a very simple building with not much detail at this point.

And driver version!

I have the same problem and IT rebuilt my computer and re-installed AutoCAD 2010 LT and I still get this after working on a project for a while. Something triggers it and I can't for the world of me figure out what. The only solution I have is to save after every move, but it's annoying. My program will not even sve a recovery file.

This is a very similar spec to our workstations. The only difference is that we are running P4 HTs.

The Quadro FX 1400 is tested and supported according to the Autodesk list.

We have declined to install 2011 until we get our PCs upgraded. Test projects (around 25Gig) became quite unstable and were subject to the "vanishing revit curse". One larger 50gig project would not even open.

If you're boss is spending the money on a subscription it really makes no sense to leave the hardware lagging behind.

XP users, disable "Hardware aceleration"
it works fine to most of my customers with fatal errors in XP

RAC2010 tends to get sluggish for us after lunchbreak. And we get fatal errors on that basis too. Using core2quad 2.66ghz, 4GB RAM, winxp x32 and quadro fx1700 cards (driver version 186.30). It's a known issue for us in RAC2010. Our models are 80 - 130MB.

We seem to have some improvement with 2011 but I've yet to take it for a spin in a real world scenario. RAM shouldn't be a problem with projects that size.

Fernando why do you suggest switching off hardware support for XP?

These sound like graphics related crashes. I would disable hardware acceleration and see if they go away. Then you will know its a graphics related issue.

Right after I posted originally I decided to switch hardware acceleration off. So far its seems to have gone away. We'll see after today.

Thanks!
