Odd. No idea why. The file paths in Settings doesn't help...

Two thoughts: One is that there are two small buttons after you select the large R button (one to view recent files and one to view open documents). If you are talking about the startup page, that's under options and user interface and enable recent files page. If it's neither of them and just not refreshing I believe that would be a windows issue. The program, if like any other program, is using a filter on your windows recent folder.

It's working now. Thanks. I was quite certain I'd done the file path setting, but perhaps I mis-hit it. I've noticed myself doing that sometimes in R2011, or maybe it's because Windows 7, when my wrist moves the mouse, the screen goes right into the desktop screen... Thanks!

Nope. Lost it again.

It seems like I can successfully change the file path, if I'm within a project when I go to the Options. But, if I try that from the splash screen, it tells me it could not save the options ("error") and to "make sure that the Revit.ini file is not read only." Which it isn't. So, I don't get it.

I just remembered the recent file list is stored within the ini also, along with all the settings you're trying to change, so it would make sense that both don't work. Looks like it's just a matter of read/write access to the ini or folder the ini is in.

I don't know how you network is setup or if your user is setup as a local admin, but you could probably disable windows 7 user access control or set the program to run as admin to gain access.

(scratch head) I guess (?) it's a Windows thing. My laptop works fine, my desktop doesn't. On the other hand, I couldn't get my laptop version of R2009 to find my shortcuts, but my desktop worked fine...wish I knew exact file paths that Revit uses. I love Windows 7, but never had these problems with XP.

There are multiple things it could be, so try this, in order: Go to C:\Program Files, right-click on the folder and go to Security, are you or the group you are in listed as having Modify and Write access to the folder? You might be in the regular Users group. Edit it and give it Modify and Write access. Test and if not working, right-click on My Computer (just 'Computer' in Windows 7), go to Manage, then Local Users and Groups, Groups, Administrators - are you listed? If not, can you add yourself? That is local admin rights (it's separate from network admin rights). If you don't have access to change it, an admin would have to. Also, right-click on the shortcut to the program and go to Properties, Compatibility, and check run this program as an administrator. UAC might be limiting you also, so go to Control Panel, User Accounts, Change User Account Control settings, and move the slider all the way down. What it does is prevent unauthorized programs from running or accessing other files. If you have a good antivirus or personal firewall, it should do the same thing. After all that, there's no way it shouldn't have access.

I keep having this problem with R2011 and I cannot figure it out. Attached is the error I keep getting. In short, the Recent Files page is trying to open in Firefox (my default web browser).

I have tried changing the permissions and I have opened the revit.ini file, but I don't know what I should change there.

Thanks.
