Parametric Quoins

I needed some quoins and the ones i have from revit city aren't working now in 2011 for some reason, or it may just be the project. It isnt letting me chance the height or the arm lengths.


I think i am going to attempt to just make one myself since it would be nice to have.

My plan is to make one quoin family with adjustable heights and arm lengths and nest it into another and array it from there.

However, thinking ahead, i do not know if i can make array parameter properly. I know how to make one that has a adjustable array number, but is there a way to make a parameter for the distance that it arrays?


If the quoin height changes, then the distance of the array needs to as well.

Can this be done? If so how?

Array.Integer = height / height.of.Quion

Isn't he height of the Array going to be the same regardless of the height of the individual quoin? You just need to make sure that the quoin size is modular to the total array height.

That makes a lot of sense, but do you know how i can keep a fixed distance between the quoins and make that parametric as well?

Also, I'm just curious which Quoin family on RC you are referring to. Can you provide a link to the download page? If it's mine I'll fix it.

apologies... i completely missed that part of our most the first time.


Note: Just because it isn't working for me does not mean its broken. I am a student and i am using a student version and sometimes i seem to have issues that other people don't, so keep that in mind :P

Nope not mine. After checking it looks like I never actually uploaded mine anyhow :/

The only thing [that should be] different about student version is the printing and exporting.

So the single quion works great. I made it as a wall based family and i just loaded into a new wall based family.

My question is, can i use parameters from the original family in equation in the new family? Does it recognize them?

Well i finished it and it seems to be working great, with the following parameters:

Quoin Height
Reveal Height
Quoin Thickness
Side A Length
Side B Length
Overall Height
Material

I've attached it just in case anyone else needs this.

I've been needing something like this and was all set to give it a test, but I'm only in Revit 2010. Is it possible for you to upload a 2010 version? It would be much appreciated...

I guess I should've asked...besides not working in 2011, did the Revit City quoins work as you liked? Or did you make improvements?

The ones i tried weren't working in 2011. Maybe they do in 2010.

Also, i don't have 2010 on my comp anymore, is there anyway to save a family file to 2010 format?

Sorry, Revit doesn't do backward compatibility. Maybe somebody have the family still in 2010 that can post it.
