Anyone seen this before? I have a track light that I cannot drag into the legend. It states that it is "not visible in the selected view."
I have no idea what to do about this. I have drug almost everything onto legends from the family list but this one does not want to go out there. Other light fixtures are already on the legend.
TIA

Is it in the light fixture family category?
just a thought

Try again.
This one really has me stumped. I have at least four other fixtures and they all show up in the legend.

Can you post an example?

This track light almost acts like it is looking for a ceiling or something????
when I try to drag it into the legend I get the international symbol for "you ain't gonna get to do this" - The circle with the slash.

Sounds like ceiling hosted family, which is looking for a host which is missing.
Try copy/paste into a non-hosted light fixture family, and then see if it will show up in the legend view?
Although, aren't simple 2x4 troffer fixtures also hosted? and they show up fine in legends?
hmm...... let me know what happens.
cheers

I got it to work.
I just quit on it yesterday and did not get back to it until a minute ago.
WEIRDNESS - but it works.
I edited the family - told it that it was a Generic Model
Loaded it back into the project
Drag-n-drop worked to get the track light onto the legend
Back to edit the family - told it that it was a Lighting Fixture
Loaded it back into the project
Did not blow up - stayed on legend.
Now go figure out why this worked and why that track light could not be place on the legend in the first place.

Just curious, instead of drag and drop why didn't you just place it using the "Place legend component" tool and find it in the drop down menu? This automatically gives it the proper host in the legend view.
edit: Tried it and it worked. Posting screencast in just a minute.

Where did the track light family come from?
Sometimes I've seen this behavior in families which were created in the wrong familt template, then changed later to the "correct" category, but still did not behave as expected
until going through a morph like you did to "get it into the correct category again."
Also, were there nested families inside the main family? Sometimes that can cause unexpected behavior like this too.

FYI, tried this in 2011 and it crashed Revit. Worked fine in 2010. Looks to be a family issue.

I have NO idea where it came from. We are working with another firm on this project and it could have been downloaded from anywhere. And as to the poster in this thread that followed your message - I am in 2010 not 2011 so maybe that is why I did not crash.

I guess I just like drag and drop better - seems easier to find what I want to me anyway.
