I have a situation where I want to produce a door schedule for a five unit townhouse terrace blocks made up of Type 1 and Type 2 house types (four Type 1’s and one Type 2). I want to know if it is possible to produce a separate schedule for each of the individual units even though the Type 1 unit appears four times and the doors are exactly the same. If this is possible how would I go about this?
I’ve been told that this is not possible and that I would have to produce each house type separately and link them together to be able to schedule them as I want to, is this correct.

If you create a shared parameter called "Building Type" (or whatever) and put in 1A, 1B etc. you could then filter by that parameter.

I understand that you want to a schedule to include doors in only one of Type1 blocks as opposed to counting them in all four. That should be possible using of of two methods.
Either
(A) Make a special parameter, assign it to doors, and filter by it.
Or (more clever)
(B) Count doors in all units but hide total counts. Instead create a column of computed values and divide overall count by the number of units

Jim & Leonid, thank you both for your replies.
I knew that this day would come in my Revit learning, the day I would have to face up to the dreaded... Parameters (Scream) :)
Up until now I've managed to get by without having to understand fully how to use and manipulate or appreciate parameters, I know that I need to learn how to use these. Not just for situations such as this but also when I move on to creating my own specific families.
For now I'm going to go away and further my Revit knowledge and find out all I can about Parameters. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Paul.

Fear not little one, parameters and shared parameters are extremely simple. Takes about 10 minutes to understand.

If I create this shared parameter "House Type" or whatever to filter the schedule by do I have to assign this to a model category in the parameter properties.
Or is it possible to have a tag that can be assigned to each house type with a shared parameter called House Type that can then be defined HT1 or HT2 depending on the house type, then filter the schedule by this shared parameter.
Or is it possible to assign a shared parameter to an exiting room tag.
If that makes sense. (not sure if I'm on the right track)

Right, I am really close to achieving what I want apart from I keep getting an error message about a formula in a Calculated Value. The error message is as follows:
The following is not a valid schedule field: Count
Formulas can only refer to fields that are included in the schedule. Note that field names are case sensitive.
The field Count is a valid schedule field and it is included in my schedule and it is spelled correctly.
Any suggestions.

You assign the shared parameter to anything you care to, but not necessarily everything. You want to be able to schedule doors and maybe windows by house type, perhaps kitchen joinery and sanitaryware too so all those items you might add a common house type shared parameter too.
You can then window around the entire house to select everything (in 3d if you can control things well enough with a section box), filter down to the items that you want to add the house type parameter too and I think it should allow you to change the one common parameter that they all share.
Does that make sense?

Pete, thanks for the reply, I think I've done what you suggested
So far I've assigned a shared parameter called "House Type" to all the doors in the model, this then appears in the schedule showing either HT1 or HT2 depending upon which house type the door appears. I typed this in by hand but is there a way to get the door to recognize what house type it is in. (i.e. one tag that recognizes the three floors that make up that house. If that makes sense)
The schedule shows correctly but now I want to do what Leonid suggested and divide the overall count by the number of units. This is where I come stuck, see my previous post.

I've got the schedule to look how I want with the use of shared parameters and filtering, this has resulted in me having to un-group some doors which is not ideal but will have to do for now. Still couldn't get the formula to work though.
Thanks for the help.
Paul.
