I apologize if this has been covered, but I'm not sure of the best search keywords and couldn't find what I needed. I'm a Revit noob so don't feel like anything you say will be talking down to me here.

I'm attempting to sort out the differences between using AREA boundaries and ROOM boundaries. Based on my testing and research so far, it seems as though the only way to create BOMA styled boundaries (to ceneter of wall) is by creating AREAs in an Area Plan. Is this correct? It also seems that the only way to associate a room number to a space is by making it a ROOM. Is this also correct?

So if I'm not missing something, then there is no way to associate a room number tag to a BOMA styled boundary. I've GOT to be missing something here! Please help.

I need room numbers associated to boundaries in the BOMA standards so the room number square footage is correct.

I'm on Revit 2010 but have access to 2011 if that makes a difference.

Settings: Area and Volume Computations...

Change Room Area Computation to "At wall Center" or "At wall core center"

Perfect. That is what I needed. Thanks for the quick response!

I'm thinking those room area calc's won't be true to BOMA when it comes to exterior walls, glazing, etc. I could be wrong, though, as I've never used the "center of wall" option for room area calc's.

While Revit's Area and Room objects really have no relationship to one another, you should be able to create an area tag that behaves much like your room tags, with name and number fields. It'll be more tedious since you'll have to create the area boundaries manually (aside from the automatic exterior wall line creation if you so choose), but you can make your area plan with area tags look just like a floor plan with room tags.
