Hi, quick question regarding phase graphic overriding. We have existing bldg as a separate file as the new bldg. now, we are in the beginning of CD phase but a couple of locations have not been signed off by the client. So we have to work on Design Sketches(w/ options) as CD package. The display is so hard to control. For sketches, they want 1 way but for CD they want another way. I really do not know which way is the best to control this. Also, for archiving those sketches, is printing to PDF is the only way to archive cause the model keeps changing and changing.
Any help?
Thanks a lot

You can use Design Options for this, or make Groups, convert to Revit projects, and then link them as Revit files into the main model and turn them on/off as required until the design is finalized, then Bind in the selected design.

this is typical, since it's already in CD, i'll prefer using linkage instead of design options, am i correct?

Can you use "duplicate views" and control the display of objects with visibility graphics? I deal with existing buildings all the time and have clients that want to see things 10 different ways and this is the best way I've found to make it work.

As for taking a "snapshot" of your model for archiving - burn it to a disk. That way you have a copy of your progress but you're not overloading your server with multiple Revit files.

Design Options is the way to go for all of the above. Using Links and Groups for alternates is fine as long as you only have to print them one at a time, but the moment you want to entertain multiple schemes, its a bigger hassle than its worth.

Design Options may kick your butt the first time you try them, and i fidn it s abig reason most users say they hate them. That said, once you have a seriously good understanding of what works with Design options, and how not to get in trouble with them, theyre amazing.

Ive had several projects run with multiple option sets, and multiple options in each one, and the options stayed all the way through Documentation, with no ill effects.
