transfer of files

Is it easier to transfer files in Revit when both parties outside of a network are in the same yearly version? Right now I'm in a different version and I can only transfer in a PDF format. I would like for my partner to be able to make changes in my file drawings and be able to send back to me with those changes made. I'm in 2009 vs. 2011, which I'm looking into purchasing for all pratical matters besides. THANKS!

Revit, since version 1 has never been able to save downwards. Both parties must be on the same year's major version. It may also be "advisable" to be on the same build of that year.
