My original roof framing beam systems were associated with a level (flat roof). Now a new sloped roof was added by the architect. I created a reference plane in a section for the required slope and named it. I set this as the work plane. I dissociated the flat beam system and tried to re-associate to the new sloped reference plane but it does not show in the list of available planes... What am I missing

Beam systems work similar to framing when using reference planes, that means you can only associate a beam system to a reference plan already parralell to the beam system. If you know the current plane of the beam system you can select the beam system in section (must be perpendicular to the plane) and rotate the beam system to match the plane of the desired reference plane

In most cases I would suggest simply remodelling the beam system though, as it can often be quicker. For complex boundarys, you can edit the sketch and copy the boundary to the clipboard to speed up remodelling

Just draw the reference plane in the same plane, re associate the beam system then rotate the reference plane.

Don't forget to name the reference plane.

As a general process in our office we put a roof in the model (actually a floor but behaves the same) even if it is flat. Then we add the slope if necessary later in the project. Unfortunately I've never had a beam system "stay" with the roof once it changes from flat to sloped. Typically the beam systems will rotate 90 degrees and get spit outside of the roof somewhere in space but in the same plane as the roof. I don't know what causes this but I haven't had it work smoothly ever.

Tom

Good suggestions for a fix. Thanks everyone
