Highlighting not working

Highlighting objects when I hover over them randomly stops working. So I can't see what I'm selecting. Is this a bug in the program?

Are the elements part of a design option? If yes they won't highlight if 'exclude options' is checked on the status bar.

Doesn't have to do design options. I will be working just fine and them all of a sudden things will stop highlighting when I hover over them. I have to close out of the program and reopen for it to work again. This happens several times a day unfortunately. I'm thinking it is a program glitch with the hovering "event"
