Place the truss in this folder; then load into project.
see attached.
Edit: Sorry--DLH is a Joist not a Truss, so it should go into the Struct. Framing
folder as pointed out below.

Thats not a Structural Truss Family. Its a Structural Framing family, they are different.
Also, that Bar Joist ships with the IMperial Library, its probably on your computer. Go to Structure > Beam, and you can load it.

Ok.. that worked.. appreciate it
so what i did wrong was select truss instead of beam...? also, in the future, how do i make myself aware of what.. icon (like beam, truss, door, window, etc) to select when i want to insert an entity and get that error message again?
thanks for the help

Certain categories have their own buttons: Doors, Windows, Beams, Trusses. Others go under the lousy catch all button "Component."
But if youre IN one tool (like the Beam tool) it wont let you load something else (like a Door). if you go to the Insert ribbon and hit Load Family, you can load whatever you want. Then, if its not there when you press the "button," its the wrong category.

how do u know what category a certain item is/ like this bar joist.. is there a way to tell that i had to go thru BEAM instead of truss?
thanks

Edit the family and go to "category and parameters". The family type will be highlighted in the dialogue box.

Is also easy to drag & drop families from the Project Browser into your view. I prefer it to using the Component (or whatever) tool.
