When I do a material takeoff, is there a way for me be to able to get the material area for wall surfaces that I have painted or will it only give me the area for the material that is orginally in the wall type?

See attached jpg for clarification...The base material of the wall is the light grey color, while I have painted the blue and dark grey areas (the green are seperate walls). I would like to be able to get an area for the light grey, blue and dark grey seperately but I am only getting the area of the light grey color which is the material that is in the wall type.

Thanks in advance!

The painted materials must have a description, preferably if all of them begin with the same prefix, such as "Exterior finish". The description is added in the identity tab of the materials editor.

For example:

Name: "Finish mat 1" > Description: "Exterior finish, mat 1, yellow"
Name: "Finish mat 2" > Description: "Exterior finish, mat 2, blue"
Name: "Finish mat 3" > Description: "Exterior finish, mat 3, red"

Then, in this example, you need to filter the schedule, to show only those materials whose Material:name parameter Begins With "Exterior finish".

See illustration.

Alfredo,

Do you have a Revit book coming out soon?

If not, you should!

Excellent replies, as usual--and you beat me to it!
