New version woes (xopen and rect. pick box)

Just started using ACAD 2011 yesterday.

I have two immediate issues.

1. Is there a way to skip the dialog box when opening xref's with the xopen command?

2. My pick box constantly goes rectangular on me again. Anyone know of a fix?

My 2 cents,
I don't know about the pick box but when I type xopen I don't get the dialogue box just a square curser to select the xref. The dialogue only opens when I type xref.

Now my ribbon keeps graying out. Why does Autocad hate me?

Nested xref's had no change.
I can't seem to get a xopen dialogue box.
The attached dialogue box pops up when I type in xref.
I am using plain vanilla AutoCAD 2011.

This behavior apparently only occurs with xrefs containing other xrefs set to the attach setting. I hadn't noticed this before as I typically do not have any xrefs containing other xrefs with the attach setting. I typically use overlay for my xrefs.
