They may seem minor, and most people might not notice it. But while working on a training demo for our In House Monthly Users Group, i found a couple of pleasant surprises i really wasnt expecting!

Grids- Propogate Extents: It now WORKS on views that have Crop regions or Scope boxes!

I was in the middle of making screen shots to teach users how to select twenty views at once, remove the SB, remove the crop, Propogate, and put the Scope back on... When i noticed it WORKED while the SB was there!

Woah, when did that show up on the scene?

Kudos to you guys, especially on the first one. Thats huuuuuge for projects with a lot of complex geometry.

TANT Walls was an advertised feature of 2011. Good to know the propogate works better.

Hi Aaron,
That part sounds interesting. Can you elaborate on that one, mate?
cheers

CPH, my bad. I guess i missed it in the documentation.

Merlin, its nothing magical. Strict naming conventions and Browser organization keep Like minded views together in the browser, and also in the Propogate extents and Views Visible dialogues.

So, in the browser they select them all, head to prop. palette, remove scope box, remove crops. Right click in Viewport, select previous (grids), propogate extents, select views in dialogue, hit okay. Go back to browser, views are still all selected, back to properties palette, re-insert the SB, and youre off.

Are you sure that still works since yesterday's update? I swear my PP is doing some WEIRD stuff when multiple views or multiple sheets are selected. Sometimes I can change properties of multiple views at once, sometimes not. Sometimes it switches back to the properties of the view/sheet I'm looking at instead of what I have selected in the PB. I can NOT change multiple sheet properties at once as of yesterday.

Various users are having trouble since the debut of 2011, with this issue, but others are not. Do you have either the Browser OR the Palette undocked? If both of mine are docked, they work fine. If i undock the browser or PP, i have trouble with multiple items selected.

But, i havent been having the trouble with multiple items selected, that others are. I AM having trouble, with TOUCHING the mouse cancelling out of text fields. You cant MOVE the mouse to the APPLY button if you cant touch the mouse, LOL.

Tab Tab Tab until Apply button is active, then Enter? Not a solution, obviously, but just a thought if you can't touch the mouse.

My properties palette is docked on the right side of my widescreen display. I hope the solution isn't docking back on the left above the PB because I HATE having both of them only half the screen height and having to scroll up and down so much.

If you move the mouse outside of the area of the properties palette, it's the same as hitting the Apply button. Could that be what's happening to you?

*edit* nope, still doesn't work if I move PP back to the left above PB. Still can't change multiple sheet properties at once. If I have multiple sheets selected and try to change a property, it flips back to the current view's properties, then back to the sheet properties again. If I try a 2nd time, it flips to the view properties and just stays there. Oh well, at least I can still leave PP on the right side.

And no urination jokes! :p

Its NOT the same as hitting Apply. It does the same thing, but there have been a LOT of other problems with not using the Apply button. Instance parameters that are tied to formulas, if you dont use the Apply button the display gets wonky and you cant see your selections anymore without manually refreshing the screen.

But, its definetely not us moving the mouse back to the viewport, ive tested it extensively.

But, as i said, NOT all users are experiencing what you are, ive tested that too. I can take a whole ton of sheets, and change all kinds of information in them all at once. Without issues.

I have heard of this issue, but have not experienced it myself. I think updating graphics drivers in our office fixed the issues people here were having with not being able to see selections.

Its 100% not a graphics card related issue. We can make the issue come and go on command, with specific families, that have instance parameters used in a certain fashion. Using the Apply button again rectifies the problem immediately.

Not really new to Revit, but new to me coming from ACA.

Mirror project. This command ROCKS!

I'm in the process of mirroring a project in ACA, one Xref at a time. 130 different files. Plus making sure the annotation is correct after flipped. It sucks.

Yeah, well... Mirror and Rotate arent all theyre cracked up to be, when there are Linked Files, LOL. But theyre nice nonetheless. I dont miss the ACA days. (Until i see the hideable dockable palettes, then im jealous...)

Aaron,

Have had the same issue with the fields reseting if I don't move quickly enougn. Scott, the tab never gets to the apply if the PP (LOL) is undocked and by the time I cycle through the apply has happened or reset. Does not occur all the time but only sometimes and not consistantly.

We are also getting instances of our instance parameters resetting to 0' prior to placement of objects. Disallows the placement of he element till the parameter has value. Go figuer I can't place a desk 0' x 0' x 0' Seems to only be an issue on upgraded projects and only on families already loaded but not placed.

Have not installed the patch yet hope it will correct some of the visibility issue I have with the pallet.

Yep, I miss those. Plus you can actually resize ALL the dialogue boxes and palettes. Not just a few here and there.

I also miss the plot diaogue and text editor. Why Revit plots the way it does is beyond me. lol

I really miss the "Window" extent option for printing. The Visible Region is OK, but sometimes a pain to zoom down to the gnat's arse to get exactly what I want.

I agree that the Print Portion option can be a little odd when your views are maximized, but if you restore down your view window and size the window and zoom to only the portion you need, then only that portion plus a little more to get to the paper print margins will be printed.

But we've gone a bit off-topic here... ;)

Ths isn't hidden, but it sure is a treasure.

I just timed opening one of our big, messy models in both 2010 and in 2011.
Main Central is 165 Meg
9 Links totaling about 365 Meg

Slight advantage to 2011.
2010:
Open (with “Create new local”) 9:25 (yes, nine minutes. People working it it tell me that’s not unusual)
SWC after making a few annotation changes. 1:43

2011:
Open (with “Create new local”) 1:43
SWC after making a few annotation changes. :48

Admittedly, no one else is IN the 2011 model, but I was in and out of the 2010 one pretty quickly, so there were no other saves in between.

So, to summarize:
9:25 vs 1:43 to Open
1:43 vs 0:48 to SWC

We are seeing similar time saved.

65mb file with a single 56mb link.

2010 Open Local 2:31
2010 Create new Local 6:34
2010 Synchronize 5:43

2011 Open Local 1:23
2011 Create new Local 2:01
2011 Synchronize: 1:43

The time saved per day in my estimation (10 STC) 45 minutes per person. WOW.

3 People on this project $150 per day saved. +/-

This does not even include unlinking and relinking to edit different files. We have not timed that but its way faster

Exporting a walkthrough in 2011 you get to choose the video compression straight away rather than after the first frame has rendered.

This is very helpful last thing on a Friday night.

Personal default 3D views, in multi-user files. I just noticed this, instead of there only being one "{3D}" in the file, there will now be one for each user that clicks the default 3D view button (house), with their user name in the brackets.

Not sure what exactly to attribute this one to...

We had a problem file that was 9.1 that we are completing as builts documents for. Couldn't upgrade as of 2010. No help from the factory. They couldn't get it to upgrade either. FINALLY got it to work in 2011!

Don't know what all the ramifications are with upgrading across that many platform changes, yet....

Yeah - thats a great one...how often I used to open the default 3d view, want to turn off the floors, and Revit wouldnt do it since the view was being used.....
