Recently we got AutoCad LT 2005 and are using it in four out of six stations. The probelm we have does not ocur in the 2000 full version we still have in use on the other two stations.

While working in any current drawing, none of us has been able to figure out why every time we try to open the Layer Property Manager from the pull down menu, or the icon, it takes almost a minute to do so. It takes a few seconds less when opening from the layerlist pull down menu but still is too long.

In average our drawings have less than 60 layers, even with the xrefs included.

On another issue, because of budget constraints, the company did not get the full version of 2005. Is there a freeware site that can provide an option for us to continue using the Express Tools and also some of our LSP routines with the LT version?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Note: I have moved this thread from the AutoCAD Customization forum to this one. I believe it would be better severed here.

Although I'm not terribly familier with LT, the problem you mention sounds a lot like the drawing(s) contain a ton of named layer filters. This is known to slow the layer manager to a crawl....

Since you have LT, I'm not sure how you can remove these named layer filters, assuming that it the problem. Maybe someone else can chime in........

Check out this thread about express tools for LT.

Express Tools (http://forums.augi.com/showthread.php?t=863)

Layer filters could be the cause of the slow down like rkmcswain suggested.

Might be worth checking out Service Pack 1 for AutoCAD 2005 LT -

AutoCAD LT 2005 Service Pack 1 (http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/dl/item?siteID=123112&id=4598416&linkID=2475712)

Have a good one, Mike

The slow layer manager was a problem. It can also be caused by too many layer filters.

Service packs should take care of it as well as deleting layer filers.
