View Full Version : Sloped Column Changes in Plan when Joined to Floor

We are using Revit 2010 on a project, and have created a sloped column family on our own, since slanted columns are not a feature in this version.

I seem to have come across a hiccup, for lack of a better term, and wanted to check with some others before I give one of my project team members a heart attack.

The user is in the midst of creating a dimensioned column plan, and noted on the odd visibility of the slanted columns in plan. We set all the values in the view range to 0', but you could still see a portion of it beyond.

In my investigating, I drew a section view through the column, and dimensioned from a grid line to the point where the edge of the column meets the floor. This does not match up with what is shown in plan!!! (see first image)

However, when I join geometry it is in the right location (see second image). None of the columns have been joined to the floor yet, so apparently they're all off in plan.

Has anyone encountered this before? This is a major problem for us, as we have already laid out parking in relationship to the columns.

Thanks for the help.

In the drawings we're setting up, we don't want to see the location of the base of the column, but rather the location of the column at the particular floor level.

We're just using join geometry now unless we come up with anything better.
