Wall fill pattern for Medium or Fine setting?

It is obvious and simple to change the course fill pattern for any wall. But can you apply a fill pattern to a wall in the medium or fine setting? The problem I am having is when I set the detail level to course (because I really like having the walls shaded in a dark color)the exterior walls with brick or stone just show as one thick wall. I need to be able to shade the walls and still differentiate the stone from the framing on the exterior walls. Anyone know how to deal with this??

Under wall properties, edit the wall structure, then change the cut pattern for each of the wall elements to solid fill with Colour of choice.

The wall will appear the same way in both fine and medium views but will revert to a solid block ( no air gap between skins ) for coarse view.
