Profile/Outline from elements

I need geometry to start a family I'm working on. Is there a way to get a profile or an outline from existing elements? In this case it's a roof. Thanks.

Probably the quickest and easiest is to create a section through the roof that will show the area you need, export to ACAD and then import the ACAD file into the family editor (in the appropriate orientation) as the base for your geometry. Don't forget to delete the dwg file before loading the family into your project.
