View Full Version : Revit materials replaced by Max materials, upon import

I'm sure this has been covered, so bear with me.

Example: I import a Revit FBX into Max and fool around with (a.k.a. "update) the materials. I then import an updated Revit FBX. Will the Revit imported materials take on the "updated" Max materials? Or do I have to make the changes manually? (I already know, or believe, that Max materials cannot be put into the so-called shared, or common library file...?).

if you import FBX to Max, no. If you link the FBX to Max (new to 2011 Revit/Max) then yes.

I THOUGHT I saw that someplace. Thanks, Scott. I did find the help topic in Max 2011, and a pretty good video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ozMiraSIyk&feature=PlayList&p=345603D449CBBBC2&playnext_from=PL&index=10

Have a question, tho, if you don't mind. I still cannot determine if I can do the following: If I change the material definition (but not the name) in Max, then copy the object in Revit that has that material (but still with the Revit material definition), export that FBX, reload into Max but using the Max reload options checkboxes to "Use Scene Material Definitions" and "Use Scene Material Assignments on Reload" (and I don't know why there are 2 checkboxes, either), the new scene DOES maintain my Max material definition on the original objects, but carries the Revit material definintion for the added object. When, of course, I want that added object's material definition to be updated...does that make sense?
