I have a project that I'm working on with an outside consultant. The drawings were all set up in 2009 saved back to 2004 (most of the office and the outside consultant is on 2004). In all but one of the drawings the layer managers that were set up on 2009 show up and work fine in 2004, but in my reflected ceiling plan the layer states that were set up in 2009 do not show up at all in 2004. I thought it was a user error on the consultants side until I opened it up in 2004 on my computer and had the same problem.

I've checked the layer states and there isn't anything particularly "2009" about them, so I'm kind of at a loss as to why they won't work in 2004. I also tried to export the layer states so the consultant could just import them and move on, however 2009 creates a LAS file whereas 2004 creates a LAY file, so that doesn't quite work.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I may be doing wrong here? We've worked around the problem on this project, but as most of my office is on 2004 I want to be sure not to recreate the problem in the future if I can avoid it.

Thanks in advance.

Maybe VP overrides? I know that only came up in 2008.

Nope, I thought about that as well and I checked. As much as I'd like to, I don't ever use VP overrides because my files have to work the same in 2004 as they do 2009 so if I used them on my plans they wouldn't work for everyone else.

Is there any conversion utility out there to convert LAS files to LAY files?
