How would you create this roof/eave detail?

I was wondering what the easiest way to create this roof and eave detail? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I create these little eave "returns" as separate roof objects. I then move them into place and join their geometry to the main roof geometry. Sometimes I'll group all of these individual roof elements together so they move together and can be selected easier.
