Was kind of interesting that we decided to change one of our process that depended on a 2011 enhancement right after getting 2011 implemented. And the feature was not know about previously.

So a small side effect of this is that the linked file shows in all views by default. Is there a way to not show in any graphical view by default? And alternatively is there a way to turn a linked file off in all graphical views once linked in? {edit - turn off without visiting every views visibility graphics settings}

Your link could be in a workset that is turned off in all views by default.

I have occasionally made a View Template that has everything UNchecked except RVT Links.
Then you can turn on and off the links you need and Apply the View Template.
Downside is, you can't mix and match. ALL the Views need to have the same Links on and off.

I had thought of the worksets option, but was hoping to avoid it.

Dave has the answer I needed. This will work for us as it's the only revit link in the whole project.

Alternatively I reduced the size of the only object in the linked project to super small and deleted the annotation style attached to it (the level line). Someone could delete the link yet but revit will bark at them saying they deleted the only instance hopefully drawing attention to something they're not supposed to do.
