Annotation vanished

All of my annotations vanished, on all views. There are some beam labels left, but that's it. I did erase a couple of levels, is there anyway I could have erased all of the annotation at that time. They are all on in VG. Any ideas? Thanks.

I had a user once select a text element then right-click "Select all instances" and then delete. He then came to me and asked where all his annotation went. He insisted that he did NOT delete them all. Then I showed him his journal file and he said, "So, 'Select All Instances' selects all of them in the entire project and not just the ones I see?"

Yea, I'm not ruling that out, I was doing a lot of editing.

tried activating the Reveal Hidden elements icon (lightbulb) in the view control bar at the bottom of the screen?
