Hello,

I just built a new Windows 7 64 bit pro workstation desktop, 8gb ram 1.5 tb hard drive Xeon Quad dual processors. Dual monitors w/ PNY Quadro graphics 512 mgb card. Designing my first project with the new system, a small cabin 5,000 total sq. ft. single story. When I first started out I couldn't believe how much faster it was than my old 32 bit XP system. After a while into the project for some reason every time I click on and off a window, door or any object it starts the green bar like its saving but I think its only regenerating the drawing. If I zoom in or out it does this sometimes. This is really slowing me down, is there a setting I am missing that will stop this from either automatically saving or this regenerating? I have tried closing out any hidden windows usually keep one 3d view on the right monitor and the working drawing on the left.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

James

I've seen this happen under two circumstances, One, if there is a view with the shadows turned on, that you opened during that session (even if it was opened then closed), and two, if the file is not workset enabled, Revit will continue to create a longer and onger undo list, which will eventually cause a laot of disk caching.

Hello Scott,

Thanks for the quick response. I checked the 3d view, shadows don't seem to be on even though the sides not facing the sun are a little darker than the side facing the sun its not casting shadows around the eves like a shaded w/edges view, it is a realistic view. I have been using Revit since 2.0 but only as a single user and have never experinced this kind of slow down on a small model even on much older machines. So you think I need to set up worksets even though I'm a single user? Is this new for 2011? Any particular workset settings that a single user needs to avoid? Do you know of any other settings that might be causing this?

Again, I appreciate all help.

James

Could simply be a graphics driver issue or possibly a caching issue. Try setting your virtual memory to double your ram and doing a disc clean up making sure that temp folder is ticked on.

Over the past two days my Revit file has started regenerating with every command.
eg. placing a wall reveal, placing a window, deleting a window. This has made working nearly impossible, as every command takes 45secs-1minute to complete.
I have purged my model, made sure 'enable analytical model' in properties is turned off, made a new central file, removed cad and revit links and went through the warning list but to no avail.

I had our IT guys clean my computer but the problem persists. I also had a colleague open the file on her computer to test it out. She had the same slow/regenerating issues! Something has gone wrong in the file somewhere? But where?
I haven't been using tiled views. I have also deleted unnecessary views in the model and purged the model.
I took an older local file and tested it to make sure the regenerating wasn't happening in this file. Then I began re-doing the work I had done. Eventually the regenerating and slowness started again in this file. I am currently adding windows, wall reveals and wall openings to concept walls in a model. Nothing to tricky, but very, very slow. Too slow to work in and not fun when you have an approaching deadline.

Please help!

(Using Revit 2015 and my file size is 44,216 KB)

Hi and welcome. Just a stab in the dark, but have you turned off 'Use Hardware Accerating (Direct3D) ? That one of the first things I do when I suspect graphics are the problem.

Hi Duncan,

Thank you for your suggestion. Where would I find that to turn it off?

See Graphics Options (http://help.autodesk.com/view/RVT/2014/ENU/?guid=GUID-64944142-3544-4CCC-A97B-B306DA8623F7). It's in the Options dialogue under the 'R' button.

Sorry to hear that ... you restarted Revit, right?

Does the speed vary more than normal depending on which view you try to work in - while all other views are closed? Is there a sharp different in 3d depending on which categories are visible? What about links, I assume you unload then while you're looking for the cause. How about when you open other files of about the same size? Do you have lots of model groups, if so what happens to performance if you ungroup lots of them?
