View Full Version : Measurement from 3D view

When working with my Revit model, I usually find myself rotating and slicing the model (with section box) to analyse the composition of the model.

Quite often, I need a measure during this process. This happens typically when I have oriented the view to the section box faces in order to have a 'section view' (last time, I needed the vertical distance between the top of a wall and the face of the roof construction).

Neither Annotate -> Dimension nor Modify -> Inquiry -> Measure works in 3D. What is the easiest procedure of getting these measurements?

A workaround by finding a plan view, creating a 'real' section, getting an overview of this and finding the requested measurement is too bulky for me.

Dimensioning works in 3D, you just need to set a workplane to dimension on first. Otherwise the dimensions will try to place themselves on the ground plane.

Thanks, it works perfectly - and becomes quite speedy when adding "Set Workplane" and "Aligned Dimensioning" tools to the Quick Access Toolbar.
