I was working on a file over the past few days and when I opened it up today (from saving and closing it last night), it seemed to have added a cylinder through the middle of the design. The preview of the file in Windows Explorer shows the correct design I was working on but opening it totally messes it up. What's going on? I'm using AutoCAD 2010 64-bit. Thanks.

AutoCAd doesn't open it or no .
If open it check the layers properties.

The preview is only a static image of when the drawing was last saved. It means little, since reference files can change, or there could be startup code running to do certain things, etc.

I don't have an answer for how this occurred, but can you go back to the latest .BAK file and use it?

Some of my students had similar problems recently with missing geometry - for example, their designs at home worked fine until they opened the same drawing in the lab and all their fillets somehow disappeared. I've read about a known bug since release 2007 with the SOLIDHIST sysvar causing geometry to disappear and new geometry appearing. In the future, make sure this is set to "0" so no history for objects is retained. It won't fix your problem now but it "should" for future projects.
