I have inherited the role of CAD manager in a practice where there was no customisation. I've built an enterprise CUIx and push it out. Currently all users have migrated their environments from previous installs so I've left main CUIx to as the main acad CUIx and added my customisation as the enterprise CUIx. Seems to work OK but I've just watched the AU screen cast on A Working Enterprise CUI in Front of Your Eyes.
I like to the look of the config but in trying to test this its not working quite as expected.
On my test machine I’ve loaded by enterprise CUIx as main and added the acad cuix as a partial. Seems great but after dragging across the shortcut menus and workspaces all the acad cuix commends now seem to be in my enterprise CUIx and remain even after unloading the acad cuix from partial. That seems to be at odds with what the screencast is suggesting.

I've been using that set up for the last 12 months and it has been working great. It's very easy to maintain from a CAD Managers point of view.
If i understand you correctly, what you must do is select your workspace first in the customize window,, (directly under your main(company cuix) file) then click on `Customize Workspace in the window next door. From there you will have to go into the acad.cuix partial loaded file and check the boxes you want to show up in the `Company' Cuix file. Once you've got it looking the way you want, make sure you click DONE.
I started my company CUIX file from a complete blank CUIX file, this way it doesn't double up like you mentioned.
Once that is all done, have you cut and pasted the `Company CUIx file from the MAIN file path into the exterprise file path? Replace the Main file path on each users machine to their local Custom.CUIx file within the CAD Support folder.
Hope this helps.

... after dragging across the shortcut menus and workspaces ...
I agree with Brad.
One would only drag components from ACAD CUIx to your ENT CUIx, if you're not going to have ACAD CUIx loaded as a partial.

thanks for the comments.
I'll try and build by enterprise workspaces from scratch (had trouble with ribbon tabs and shortcutmenus when I tried last time).
Robert Bell very definately dragged these items across in his presentation and left acad.cuix in partial which is why I question it.

Robert Bell is a prominent and respected name, I would give his suggestions a lot of credence.
Having quickly read through the course handout, here is what he states:
Add Core CUIx Files as Partial CUIx Files
The company CUIx file would be of little use if it did not restore the usual out-of-the-box elements. These elements will only be available once the core CUIx files are loaded in the CUIx structure. There are two choices: either use the core CUIx as the enterprise CUIx or load it as a partial CUIx to the company CUIx file. The latter choice is used in this handout due to the choice of starting with a “blank slate” company CUIx file.
...
Transfer Shortcut Menus
Shortcut menus do not work correctly unless they are located in either the main or enterprise CUIx files. Transferring them to the user’s main CUIx file means that they cannot be modified to the benefit of the entire company. Therefore, they are transferred to the company CUIx file.
Select the Transfer tab in the CUI editor. (Note that the Main Customization File (Company.cuix) is displayed in the left pane.)
Select the New File drop-down button on the right pane.
Select Acad.cuix.
Expand the Shortcut Menus node in Acad.cuix.
Select all shortcut menus in Acad.cuix.
Drag-and-drop the selected shortcut menus on the Shortcut Menus node for the Company.cuix file in the left pane.
Select the Apply button to apply the recent changes.

There are four instances of the word "drag," and all but the one highlighted above refer to either the ribbon, or QAT.
To the best of my understanding, only company specific items (and the shortcut menus as noted above) went into the ENT.CUIx file. All standard toolbars, etc. remained within the ACAD.CUIx file as the ENT.CUIx file started as a "blank slate" for his examples.
I hope this helps!

I believe I even mention that when it comes time to create workspaces in the enterprise CUIx file, that you need to create new workspaces and replicate the OOTB workspaces rather than just transferring workspaces. When you transfer workspaces, all the supporting elements are also transferred which is usually undesirable.

Thanks. And at updated should you be deleting all the shortcutmenus and imported commands and repeat or just leave it?

Thanks. And at updated should you be deleting all the shortcutmenus and imported commands and repeat or just leave it?I redo the shortcut menus, but I usually don't worry about the other imported elements unless I know there is an update.
