View Full Version : Relocate Model to Startup Location

I started a Revit project based on a site DWG inserted origin to origin (OTO), so my Survey Point and Project Base are about 1000' SouthWesterly of my model.

Now I need to relocate my model to align with an Architectural DWG whose origin (0,0) is located within the project site area. The ideal result will look and act like I started the project based on the Arch and not the Site.

I link in the Arch.dwg (CenterToCenter as frequently recommended in this forum) then move it to align with the Revit model. I then Acquire Coordinates of this DWG, the Survey Point relocates as expected, and the Project Point remains at the Startup Location.

I remove the DWG link, then relink it OTO, and it locates itself near the Project Point/Startup Location.

I remove the DWG link, unclip and move the Project Base to align with the Survey Point, relink the DWG and still it locates itself near the Startup Location.

This seems as though there will be Coordinate issues with other trades and their various CAD and BIM softwares.

It seems the only way to achieve my goal is to use the Move command but this breaks the model.

Am I overlooking something? Is it possible to use the Project Location tools to move the model to the Startup Location? Am I unnecessarily fixating on the Startup Location?

Thanks!

Here's what I ended up doing, in case you're interested.

new project file
link in Old project (CTC)
move linked file to Startup Location
go to East Elev and delete the live Levels
Bind (include attached details, grids and levels)
address errors or warnings as needed
remove revit link
select the bound model and UnGroup
recreate datum referenced views [View > Plan Views > Floor Plan, and select a level from the bound model]
duplicate First floor for Site view
repeat as needed

What a waste of a day for something that should be an easy adjustment.

You should be able to use the "relocate project" command under "manage" ribbon.
For this to work you need to make sure all of your grids/levels and anything else important are set as "shared" in their properties, not as "project".
Then all you do is align the new level, or move in plan, and should take you about 30 seconds to relocate your project, as essentially all it will do is alter the co-ordinates and levels rather than actually physically moving anything. Hope this helps for future relocations you may need.

That's sounds like a great idea.

The grids are not giving me the option to change between Shared and Project from the Properties like Levels do. Is this set elsewhere?

Thanks!

It should be there,
note that it is found under "edit type" options, not just in the basic element properties.

I figured that's where it would be, similarly to Levels. Not sure why it's absent. Please see the attached screen-capture of the Type Props and thank you very much for your help.

Ok, my mistake, grids do not have this option to change to shared, they are a system family and it appears you cant do much to edit them other than alter their appearance.

Levels, however, are the ones you will need to set to shared.
