Stair winder help

Can someone explain how to create a winder stair case (not sprial). I can't find a specific reference and I think I understand the idea of using the run and riser sketch tools but I get funny errors with everything I try. Is there a good tutorial on this specific type of stair?

Error: "can'couldn't generate surfaces for stairs" - not a useful error message. Why even bother having an error message if it doesn't explain why something doesn't work?

The way I have sometimes built this kind of stair is to use the run tool to build the stair, then go back and edit it. You can also draw the boundary of the stairs and then fill in your risers the way you want them. Be careful with the ends of the winders not to overlap them, that can cause problems. They can converge on the corner, but even a slight overlap will cause the stair to fail.

Thanks Joef. I must have had overlapping points where the winder converges. I hadn't tried to draw the boundary first and fill in with risers. I was just using the run tool. I think the draw boundary makes so much sense with existing stairs because they are full of wierd stuff. I'll try that.
