I have a Excel file that has lat longs and I want to create map features at these locations. I've tried saving as a csv file and importing...no luck there. I would prefer to use FDO for these features. I'm using AutoCAD Map 3D 2011. Is there a way to get there from here? Thanks in advance.

I keep getting a "failed to connect" message. I've tried saving the excel file a bunch of different ways, even copying just the columns and rows I need and pasting them in to a new workbook. Nothing seems to work.

Did you set up the ODBC connection from the windows control panel first? (not inside AutoCAD MAP 3D) And use the correct odbc drivers for your excell file.

I set up the DSN connection in windows first. I tried multiple ways, user and system dsn, and I also tried different drivers thinking that could be the problem. Every combination resulted in the same error.

There were isuues with Excel in 2010 didn't try in 2011 and no longer have a working version of Excell to test. You may need to convert it over Access database and try if want the odbc connection.
Another way is use the CVS file as plain text and use the survey tab on the map task pane to create a new data store and then select your cvs file. This will create a SDF file with the points in it.
