i'm a revit newbie - took a class at the beginning of the year but it was taught using an older version. we just got 2011 and i can barely do anything. we recently inherited a project from another firm and right now i just want to insert a door. in plan view i drop the door in the wall and switch to 3d the door appears as a nice solid black while the rest of the building is a ghosted gray. "whatever," i think and i print. then when i go to the other views i discover that the new door does not appear in the elevation. so now i know i can't just pretend that everything's o.k., so what did i do wrong?

Welcome to the forum.

My first, most likely guess is phases.

Revit works in Phases - typically OOTB there are two phases - existing and new construction.

If you inserted a door in the new construction phase and then viewed the wall in a 3d, or indeed any other view, which is set to Existing Phase, then Revit, correctly, shows the wall as it was before the door was inserted in the new construction phase.

Check down the very bottom of your properties tab for the current phase settings of any view.

Cheers,

Ian
