Based on the paper of the latest BIM Caseweek (http://www.bimcaseweek.nl/) (a Dutch initiative where designers and drafters from several disciplines gather for a week to fieldtest BIM solutions) I've read several mentions of IFD and COINS.
After some more research, I gathered COINS is a way to describe building information in a standardized system, while IFD is a way for several software products (non-specific localisation or discipline) to interpret IFC files. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

We have our own standards to link calculated quantities to specific products, (basically, we adapted the UniformatClassifications file to match our Calculation standards) and are looking for a good way to communicate this with our suppliers. Is it smart to find a way to implement either as-is, or make our own 'dictionairy' in an IFD fashion to make a COINS-type container? What is the smartest way to use this to improve our communication?
I sense IFD and COINS are well on their way to pave the way forward, and we want to be among the first Dutch companies to use it's potential.
Suggestions appreciated.
