View Full Version : Fixture Schedule With nested Families shows all or nothing

I am trying to create a plumbing fixture schedule and when I uncheck itemize every instance nothing shows up in my schedule. I have my schedule pulling all of its information via shared parameters in the family (for the fixture tag) and nested families with in that family. (for the different components of the family i.e. for a Water Closet; the china is one family, the seat another, the flush valve another etc..) When I leave Itemize every instance box checked everything comes in perfect except it shows the same fixture for every instance i have it in the project. I only need to show a WC-1 once in a schedule not 30 times. where am I going wrong. Is there some formula I can put it to only show each Family type only once in the schedule. I have attached an example of what I am trying to explain.

In the same window where you unchecked itemize every instance (think its the sort/... tab, not sure, using Revit in french), you need to select a parameter to sort by.

If you don't do so, the schedule will be empty.

HTH!

I updated the attachment hope it works this time around. As for the sorting I've tried to sort by Fixture Tag and it shows only the fixture tags one per family type, but none of the nested information pertaining to that type shows. Then I've tried to filter by Fixture Tag - then by Tag ID(which is just the different parts to that fixture) and it groups all the Fixture Tags together and all the nested parameters together once per instance. Even if they are nested in separate families or types. Which in most occasions different water closets will have the same seat. So I would need to show that information for each water closet. I've tried many different combinations with the grouping and still can't seem to get them in the correct order. Even if I had them in the correct order. Two separate families nesting the same seat will only show the parameter under one of the Fixture tags if I have the Itemize every instance unchecked.

Interesting set-up. I like how it works.
You just need to add a Y/N parameter (hidden field) then filter by that that.
So the families you want to show up in the schedule, turn that parameter on.

(and leave the itemize every instance ON or like you saw, your nested families disappear)

This is a guess but in the nested family I believe that you have to make sure the family is "Shared" in the properties

You lost me... do you have a screen shot or more explanation of what you are describing? I don't think I'm familiar with a property called "Shared".

-Wait - I found it under "Category and Parameters", but that didn't seem to help in this case.

Thanks Gabe,
Filtering the Yes/No Parameter worked when I added it to my Family as an Instance Parameter. However when I added it to the nested families, I was unable to control it from the project file. I went back in my main family and clicked a nested family and went to the element properties. Under my yes no instance parameter of the nested family I linked to the same shared parameter. It still shows up in my schedule and my yes no parameter has no check box it instead reads yes. I will attach an updated drawing, so that you can see what I have done.

Is this what you are trying to accomplish? Sorry if it is not I have not had my coffee this morning. I filtered a couple of items by "Parameter exists" and turned itemize every instance Off.

mititlow,
What you have only schedules one type or family. For example I want the schedule to show:

WC-1
Water Closet Kohler K4350 etc..
Flush Valve Sloan G2 8211 etc..
Seat Bemis 1955 SSC ........
WC-2
Water Closet Kohler K4302 .......
Flush Valve Sloan G2 8111 .....
Seat Bemis 1955 SSC .....

I was able to control which family displays in my schedule by using a yes/no instance parameter in the family. However the information in the nested families (Water Closet, Flush Valve, & Seat) was still showing up for every instance. In most occasions something like the WC-1 and WC-2 will have the same seat and valve but a different toilet model.

I just added the parameter in the project parameters and applied it to the plumbing fixtures category. That way you can control all your nested families just fine. Try that. It worked perfect.
