View Full Version : Casework Family Parameters

I really dislike the pre-set Width, Height and Depth parameters in the Casework Family Template. I don't see a way to remove them and I don't even see a way to change them from Type Parameters to Instance. I want to be able to label my parameters my own way. I suppose I could not use those papameters but then there are useless parameters there to just clutter up the dialog box. If you start with a generic family and change it to casework they are added in.
Any ideas?

I don't think there is a way around this. Those parameters are kind of hard-coded in casework families. Plus, they are part of a longer list of standard parameters for casework, which can be read in Autodesk's Revit Model Content Style Guide.

You can't remove the default parameters but you can change them from Type to Instance.
- Create a dimension
- Set to the Type parameter you wish to change
- Pick the Dim/Param then check the Instance toggle in the Options bar

You could also start a new "Generic" framily (Using the Generic template) and then change the category to "Casework"... :beer:

When you change the family's category Revit populates it with default parameters like Width, Height, etc. I believe the original poster want's to use the Casework template but doesn't want the default parameters.
Your other option is to start with a Generic family, as mentioned by Munkholm, but instead of changing the category you'll create all parameters from scratch. Keep in mind that they won't schedule in your project unless you add said new parameters to your Shared Parameter file.

Yah, should have read Karens post more carefully, she actually figured that too... Still thinking that it may have been possible in earlier versions though... or not... :confused:

It's really not that big of a deal except that it's just a little annoying...There's been a few situations where I've wanted to specify, "Cabinet Width" and "Countertop Width" within the same family and then you have "Width" sitting there silent and useless. I just don't like the visual clutter.

Not sure about earlier versions... 2008 was my first and I believe it was the same.

You could minimize the visual clutter in the family editor by just changing the scale of the view. For casework items, a scale of 3"=1'-0" makes those parameters' names very small but still readable when you need to see them.

Same problem - I at least "grey them out" by making them formula based:
Width = Cabinet Width

This is probably the best "solution" for that type of issue.
