Hi there.

I often ask questions over the internet using an attached RVT file to asisit in diagnosis of an issue.

Is there a way to get RVT files much smaller than say 500 – 600kb?

I have just done a quick test: I did the following...

Purge Unused

THEN

Went to the Project Browser and deleted (manually) all the files that would allow themselves to be deleted.

THEN

Went to the Materials Library and deleted all the unused materials.

The result is a file about about 636kb!

Is there any other ways of making files even smaller, (Getting rid of unneeded 'stuff') within revit? (Obviously zipping etc. can be done externally, but I am more concerned about size within revit)

Thanks,
Craig

Did you compact the file?
BTW - anything below 800 is a very small Revit project file.

Thanks again wmullett for the reponse.

When you say compact the file do u mean zip the file? If so no, that is just the RVT file.

Thanks you have sort of answered my question, so a small revit project file is about +/- 800kb

Under the file save, their is an options, in there is a compact file check box. When picked, Revit will then save the file compacted.

The size file youre talking about refer more to me to a family then a project.
If you need to share a project by email i suggest you look into DWF. If it needs to be a Revit file use an FTP or a large file sharing website.

And the Compact file only works with Sync with Central . To "compact" a not workseted file you need to Save As
