View Full Version : Revit is Misreferencing

Good afternoon

Hopeing that someone may be able to help me with a seemingly minor issue which is causing some major concern. For some odd reason when we place a section or a callout reference on the plan.. the originating reference location doesn't necessarily reference the right place. For example, if I have a bubble that should be referenced 2/A201/A504 revit may tell it to reference to 2/A301/A504.

Likewise for floor plans.. the main title reference never references itsself, it will reference whatever is the most northern reference on the plan. Hense floor plans are usually referenced 1/A201/A201 however they will read 1/A301/A201.

Please help!

Thank you,

you did not explain your sheet numbering system, such as Exterior Elevations are 300's, Plans 200's etc. so it is impossible to dianose the issue specifically.

Floor Plans tend to reference the first elevatiion/Section where the level they were created from will appear.

All other views will reference the first location within the set where they appear. Hiding a Section or callout in a view, either manually, or with a View Filter. does not in itself prevent the view from referencing back to the plan with the hidden reference. After hiding the refernceing object (Section/Detail etc.), make sure there is somewhere else it is referenced. Then Remove the plan from the sheet view, Save to Central. Now place the plan back on the sheet, and the view will back reference to the other location.

This has been an issue since Version 9

I've spoken with Autodesk support on this, and they've asked me to add this as a feature request, based on my suggestion. Since many 'votes' for this will assist, can I please ask anyone who wants this fixed to add the following text to the link below?

"Views placed on sheets such as sections and detail callouts that are referenced from view markers have a 'referencing sheet' parameter. The value assigned to each view for this is set by the software and is read-only. Causing this reference to become invalid (by workarounds) causes the reference to 'jump to' the next sheet in the list (sequentially) that has the view marker visible. On large projects, this is far from normal documentation practice and tiresome. I would suggest that the Referencing Sheet value be something that the user can set from a list of 'valid' values (i.e. sheets on which the corresponding view/s contain the section marker as visible). This drop-down option could also feature on the options bar when a view is selected. This issue was raised and discussed as part of a support request. For more information, refer #110000085578. Thank you Chris. I submitted that. I think that would be a great feature. We don't show our referencing sheet in our callout tags, but for the sake of workflow it would be nice to have a list when checking a project.

We never show the referencing sheet for this very reason.
