Metal deck from manufacturers

I'm curious to know if anyone has requested or heard of there being requests for metal deck manufacturers to provide their decking as a Revit family?

The reason I ask this is because I had someone outside of my office say they have requested a manufacturer to provide Revit entities (families and details) or they would not use that particular manufacturer. I was never given an answer to why this request was made.

So, I'm curious - is this something that happens more than not, or was this just an unusual request. And what would you be looking for if you would request a deck manufacturer to provide Revit entities?

I realize this is may be a bizarre question, but it has be curious and I can't ask the source.

Not sure exactly what you are asking, but I don't see why it would be unusual for engineering consultants to request content from manufacturers, although not very common

Some manufacturers are foreseeing the benefits and providing content already with Bluescope a subsidiary of BHP already providing items such as metal deck profile families on there website here >> http://www.steelselect.com/

Rather than engineers approaching manufacturers directly, I think it will be more common for third party content creators approaching the manufacturers directly offering their services to build content and then supplying them to consultants for use on projects potentially creating business for the manufacturers
