Can someone please explain how you can export a revit 3d model to DWF. All I can find is info to export specific sheets or views to DWF and not the model itself.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

Open a 3D View in Revit.
Then export to dwfx--and it will export all content in the 3D view.
If you don't want everything in the view to export, you can turn off categories/filters/worksets, etc. and also use a section box to "clip"
the 3D view .

Ok, thanks. I was told (by someone obviously less informed then I thought) that Design Review could open the Revit file.
So any sheet you want someone else to see, you have to manually export to DWFx. Then, if you export the 3d model, that person would have an accurate representation of the model as it exists in Revit. Is this about right?
Thanks for the info.
You can actually export the whole project out to Dwf. You could have the 3D view plus all it's sheets. Just play around with your export setting. keep in mind though that dwf will not have the same materials as revit.

I export the 3D view plus all the sheets for the superintendent to use on site. You can check both 2D and 3D views and export it to one file. Also note that if you export multiple 3D views, it adds a lot to the filesize. I don't really understand why, since it should just be another view, but it duplicates data somewhere to make the file blow up in size. If you want preset views, export the one 3D view and then save extra views in Design Review.

Thanks jspatz. I exported all the sheets and the one generic 3d view. This tactic seemed to keep the file to a managable size (27mb from a 90mb revit model).
Elmo,
You mentioned that dwf will not have the same materials as revit. Is this because when I exported the 3d view the entire building other than the windows were a default grey color. In addition we have model line groups drawin for our reveals in revit and they do not show up in the 3d view. Is there a way to export the 3d view more accurately to show the material/reveal information.
Again, thanks to everyone who responded.

I tried a quick test with some model lines in RAC 2011, exported to dwfx
and the model lines show up in 3D view and elevation.
However, in the 1st image--dwfx, some of the lines do not show up.
The 2nd image is the Revit model.
3rd is 2D dwfx of elevation from Revit
Could be a setting in Revit dwfx export?
see attached.
cheers
**edit** The lines are actually there in the dwfx--it seems to be a graphics/display issue. When you open the dwfx and zoom in/out, you can see that all the lines are there.

DGT, model line surface patterns are not exported, but model lines are. 3D reveals would of course be exported. As far as color, all the colors remain the same as the Revit model colors - different than the render materials. The colors you see in a shaded view in Revit is what you should get when exported to DWFx.

jspartz - ok, the shaded view thing makes sense. Is there a hidden line graphics option for Design Review?
Also, what is the difference between model lines and "model line surface patterns"? My model line reveals are set via work planes and grouped into model groups.
