Roof over a beam

As a new user, I'm perplexed. How do you construct a roof over a wall on one side, and LVL beams on posts on the other side? I want the roof to bear on the beams. I applied a small 4" generic wall over the beams to trick it, similar to adding a plate on the beam and wall, then selected roof-by footprint, but I shouldn't have to do that. Any better ideas?

When in sketch mode you can simply draw lines to define the roof extents where there are no walls.
