Aligning issue

I created a model...(see attached)...but when I attempt to 'align' it on the edge of a slab/floor (note: its a floor based family)....I get the following error.... Has anyone seen this and/or know how I can get around it? I'm assuming operator error (me), just not sure how to right my wrong. Thanks!

your question and pic are a bit vague, but have you tried the move tool (mv) instead of align?
