View Full Version : Cove lighting visibility

I am trying to address linear fluorescents under cabinets, on top of cabinets and in coves and such, and having problems with the cove condition. In the attached you see in section there is a light fixture between the ceilings, and in RCP it is obscured. I would have expected the drafting lines to show in no matter what, especially since the lines are at the RCP cut plane, not at the fixture mounting height (my original location).
So, is there something I am doing wrong? Or can one just not get a fixture to show any representation if there is a solid between the fixture and the cut plane? In which case, what are people doing to address this? I would rather not use the Hidden Lines tool, as that will give the standard, thin hidden line representation, and the whole goal here is to accentuate the lights in an RCP.

Thanks!
Gordon

Hmm, guess you can't add a forgotten attachment via edit. Hopefully this works.

You have to add an "invisible" line in the elevation so that something the family is cut in plan.

Indeed, I have the invisible line trick in effect, and it works da bomb in the under cabinet light, but not the cove light. It is as if something "behind" the cut plane works, but something "in front of " the cut plane and obscured by something won't work.

Thanks,

Do you have symbol lines drawn?

Yup, symbolic lines in the family, set to the ref plane that is pulled down to coincide with the cut plane of the RCP view. At first I assumed that being symbolic they would show up even when on the same ref plane as the fixture, but that didn't work. So then I pulled them down to the cut plane, and that didn't work, so then I put them on a dedicated ref plane that sits 1" above the cut plane, and that isn't working either. :(

don't have Revit beside me so i cannot test it, just thinking:
what about sits 1" below the cut plane? foreground/background stuff?

Hi Ning, maybe this can help.

right SamuelAB, that confirmed my suspecting -> annotation should be at right location (in this case, draw a ref plane for that guy), and turn on/off "Draw in Foreground".

To get the cove lighting to become visible in RCP, you must change the DISCIPLINE parameter of the view to ELECTRICAL. Also, make sure that UNDERLAY ORIENTATION is set to REFLECTED CEILING PLAN. (Yes, even if "Underlay" is set to "None").
