Hi All.

Just a quick one. Could someone tell me why these (attached image) RPC plants are rendering in the air and not at the level thay are set at?

Thanks,
Craig

Some of them do that I've noticed. You just have to drop them with an offset below the plane. I've noticed 6" is usually the key.

Thanks for the response.

Well having it 6” in the air doesn’t make sense to me! What would the reason be to have the plant render in another position? Is this a glitch or is there a reason behind the madness?
Possibly there is a setting within the RPC family that I can change to get the RPC to render at the right level?

Click on the RPC, then use "Select Host" or a similar command and it should set it onto the toposurface or other surface you select.

Also, in the RPC family, check the box for "work plane based" and perhaps uncheck
"always vertical" depending on the slope, etc.

Its because this particular rpc has pieces sticking downward so the mask part of the rpc has to go below to allow for the transparency. So as the previous poster mentioned the solution is just to select them and in properties change the elevation offset to -6". You can't do anything else.

Thanks Scott and Cliff

Got a better understanding of that now!

I just placed all the plants that I have into one project file and rendered a 3D side view. This shows me which float and which don’t. I will keep this project file + 3D render handy as a reference to avoid trial and error.

Thanks for the help,
Craig

If you want to get rid of possible errors, what you can do is in the RPC family create a parameter for an offset, then set the offset amount for each type, so when you switch to a type of plant that does float it automatically offsets it the 6" below the host.
