New Area Plan vs Existing Area PLan

We are trying to create two area plans, one, existing and one new,. However, Revit only likes to make New plans and not existing ones. So when you go to the exisitng plan and try to create an existing Gross Plan, it makes it a new one. I did notice that the area dialogue box says, " New Area Plan" at the top. Is it that simple?

Is this the expected behavior? Are we missing an important step?

Try this:

Create new area schemes, i.e. Existing & New. (Room & Area Tab / Area & Volume Calculations / Area Scheme Tab)

Then go to the existing plan view, and create an area plan using the Existing scheme.

Go to a new plan view, and create an area plan using the New scheme.
