Fascias and soffits.

The attached jpg shows an eaves detail. the building is modelled with a gable at this point and the detail is a projecting brick and a dentil course and then there is a fascia/barge board.

The fascia should drop down with a detailed return to obscure the soffit that you see beyond. How do I achieve this? Do barge boards need to be inplace familes? If so how do I make them continuous with fascias?

Perhaps you could create the piece that you want as another soffit with the depth set equal to the thickness of your fascia board. Then use the join geometry tool to clean up the connection between this new soffit and the fascia. I don't know if a soffit will join properly at a gable end but it might be worth a shot.
