Hi all,

I'm having an issue with rendering on machines with that have installed the either Revit 2011 Web Update 1 or 2. The following images are taken from the exact same model, with exact same view, with the exact same settings:

Revit 2011, build x1700 (no web updates):

Revit 2011, Web Update 2 (but same problem under Web Update 1):

Notice how the glass material is almost invisible in Web Update 2? Does anyone know of something specific that has changed between the 2011 release and Web Update 1 or 2, in terms of rendering?

Here are the Material settings for that particular glass:

The two computers are nearly identical. Both are i7 processors with 12GB of RAM. We're running Windows 7 64bit. The only difference is that one has installed the web updates, the other has not. I would appreciate any help in this matter. Thank you in advance.

I know that some rendering materials were added but I am not sure what might have been done.

Hi Bryan,

I never saw any documentation with the WU-2 download to the effect the WU-2 materials were different in terms of the Protein 2 assembly that shipped with RA 2011.
Have you talked to your Reseller ? or AutoDesk Support direct ?
Also, silly question maybe, but has the user checked or tried to re-assign the material (anyway) to the elements and, is it possible to transfer the mat either way since its the same year version and there should be few restrictions....I'd say Steve Stafford could find out about this one pretty fast if he doesn't already know about it.
good luck

Thanks for the replies all. I believe the problem started with Web Update 1. It just persists under Web Update 2. I did call my reseller, and they weren't able to provide any substantive advice.

Interestingly, materials based on "Glass - Glazing" render differently, but materials based on "Glass" seem to work out fine.

Hey Steve, do you have any advice?

Thanks,

Glass-Glazing is designed for windows and glass where you don't see the edges. It doesn't diffract light and renders much more clearly. Normal glass is great for glass railings, table tops, glass fins like you have in your rendering etc.

If it were me I'd use a combination of materials - glazing for panes of glass in my curtainwall and glass for the fins... and be prepared for long render times.

just saw this post at Revit Clinic :

Perhaps it some use, perhaps not but does show things have changed .
kind regards
