How do I complete a Paste with [ctrl] P? It shows up as an outline, but I can't figure out how to place it there? I suspect I'm missing something simple. Thanks.

Paste is ctrl-V not ctrl-P, which is print. If you meant ctrl-V then you just pick a point after doing the keystrokes. Works perfectly here in 2011

Yes, [ctrl] V, that's what I meant, sorry. After the key stroke it shows up exactly where I copied it from (similar view to view) but that's the problem. I have to pick a place to paste it. It's already where I want it. Picking a spot places it in a new location.

You get some more options from the Modify menu when you paste - see image.

Depending on what kind of information you're pasting you can handle it one of two ways. sometimes a dimension from the origin of the paste is available. When this occurs you can simply enter a dimension of 0'-0" and it will place it exactly where it shows up.
If the dimension isn't available, you need to use the after-paste options. Once you paste the information away from origin, it temporarily resides in a "group-like" state. You can move the objects around like they are grouped together, place them where you need and then "finish" the paste.
Bryanm's suggestion can work well too, depending on what you're trying to accomplish.

others have answered your question I think, but just out of curiosity why would you want to paste something in the same spot as what you copied?

Yes, the past pull down is what I use, looking for a keyboard shortcut.
Same place, different view. Typical section cuts up a building for instance.

ah, makes sense. I think that the drop down Paste menu is your only option. But wait, have you tried setting up your own shortcut in the Keyboard shortcuts list (View/User Interface)? There is a Command item for Paste: Aligned to Same Place...
