View Full Version : How do I move group array instances to different worksets

I have a series of arrays of trusses which I would like to move from the Building Shell to the Structural workset. I can change the group TYPE workset to Structural but the group INSTANCES are still on Building Shell. How do I move the instances (workset is always grayed out when I edit the array group)?
Thanks,

So I guess it's not possible?

I believe you have to make sure that both worksets are checked out by you (source and destination) otherwise you will get the error message that you can't modify the group. If that doesn't work you can always re-create the array. I've found that sometimes I can spend more time trying to sort a problem out than it takes to re-create the geometry :???:

Dimitri is correct that it is often easier just to recreate the array, however, here's one way of doing it.
1. Select the group array.
2. Copy to clipboard.
3. Activate the target workset and paste aligned, same place. ( Ignore the warnings )
4. Activate the original workset and delete the group from there.

The members of the array must be in the same workset as the array element. But what, you might ask, is the array element? Glad you asked.
When you select any member of the array something appears that looks like a dimension except it shows the number members in the array. That thing is the array element. Once it is visible (because you selected a member) you can select it. After it is selected, go to Properties and set its workset. That will automatically set the worksets of all of the members in the array.
Selecting the array element is also useful for other purposes. For example, if you want to keep all of the array members grouped but you want to move them independently, you can select and delete the array element. Also, if you want to copy/paste all members in an array and have the new one also be an array then select all array members, Ctrl-select the array element, Copy to Clipboard, Paste. Same idea applies if you want to add the array to a Design Option.

Irwin,
Great tip. I'll add that to 12,000 things I don't know about Revit. Thanks

Thanks. Sometimes it's so easy to redraw something in Revit that we don't learn the faster but less obvious way to ReVIse iT.
