Hi all,

I have nested generic family (categorized as window) into a curtain panel family. I have set up a shared parameters called "# of Lites Vertical" and "# of Lites Horizontal" to coordinate control of the number of divided lites I have in each instance placed in my project. The window schedule will not report the parameter integer, even though the parameter is working on each object.

Any thoughts on how to get the parameter to report?

Did you create the parameters in the curtain panel family, and set them equal to the nested family's parameters?

:?:

Are you able to see those parameters in the properties dialog when you click on the curtain panel??

I think andrewg and I are going down the same path here. To check to see if you did map the parameters you can test it by seeing in the those parameters not only show up in the properties dialog but function as well.

Likewise you could check this by going to the to the Type Menu within the curtain panel seeing if those parameters exist and whether they flex or not.

I placed the parameter into the CP family and the Window Family. In the properties of the nested window family, I set the parameters = to CP parameter. When in the project, i have to select the Curtain Panel (not the window family, which is itself selectable) to change the number of lites - so it flexes, as desired. It would appear that the curtain panel parameter is the controlling one, that the window family reports the same integer, but the window schedule does not report anything - the field is blank.

I do not know how to link the parameters otherwise. Is it possible within the "family types" dialogue box to have a parameter be controlled by a nested family parameter?

How about a "reporting parameter" ?

Just a long shot...............

I do not know how a reporting parameter works.

I have updated the family to ensure that each (the host and the nested) are using the shared parameters. Once I reloaded, there was still no parameter value listed. And, the downside to these updates is the actual lite sizes have all reverted back to default settings - which do not match the preferred settings - so I have to re-do those settings for about 40 windows.

Not sure this will work for your situation, but worth a look.

I think I have determined that although I have shared parameters, I have non-shared parameters of same name in most window families. Once I added the shared parameterto the curtain panel family, and the nested window family, I also needed to add the shared parameter to the project. that was subsequentially added to the window schedule.

Problem now is that I have two columns each for vertical and horizontal lites. the nested windows show up in one column, and the regular window families list in the other. I suppose now I have to update all the window families to report the shared parameter to get it down to single columns...ugh. thanks.....

May I ask how you where able to get the non nested windows families to show those parameters in the schedule if they were not shared parameters? Just out of morbid curiosity??

How about a screen shot of the Family Types dialog for the nest and the host? What are the parameters you are hoping to see using to determine how wide and tall each unit should be? I assume there must be some calculation being used to define their size when you specify how many units you want?

I think that was the problem: the non-nested family was controlling the divided lites parameters (i.e. the arrary of muntins controlled by an integer) but they were not reporting in the schedule. I seem to have had a mix of shared, and non-shared parameters, all with the same names (i.e. number of vertical lites) in the families and project.

I will have to work on screenshots.....had to boogie on the entire set, and left this matter alone for the last few days.
