Hi,

I want to create a curtain wall that has triangular panels. Is there a way to add a third curtain grid in the curtain wall type properties (one at 45, on at -45, and one at 0 degrees to create a triangular grid pattern)?

If not, how would i go about creating a curtain wall made of triangular panels?

Thanks!
Cameron

You can try 2 approaches:
( If I understand your question correctly )

A.

- Create a "normal" curtainwall with vertical and horizontal grids.
- Create another curtainwall, and rotate the grids
- Then "combine" the 2 curtainwalls together, you can edit the curtainwall's profiles
if required to create the angled portions

B.

- Create a Conceptual Mass, with a face that is the shape of your curtainwall.
- Select the face, and make a Divided Surface.
- Give the Divided Surface a traingular pattern.
- Create a Pattern Based Curtain Panel, then load into the Project
- Select the Divided Surface and specify your new Pattern Based Curtain Panel
- If the edges need to be adjusted, Create an Adaptive Component Curtain Panel
to "patch things up" as needed.

hope that helps.

Cliff answered this very well. For the cleanest looking approach you will want to use option B.

Thanks!! Ill give it a try. Option A seems easier as making a conceptual mass that is the exact dimensions that i need would be hard. Its a double curved surface.

Actually, a double curved surface is probably easier done as a conceptual mass than any other way. I will throw out another option, but this is very limited in the type of triangulation that you can accomplish. If you are dividing a rectangular curtain panel into two triangular panels then you could add a diagonal mullion nested inside of a rectangular curtain panel.

Thanks! Nesting a Mullion in a curtain panel family worked great.

I just made 6 family types:
1 - Top Left to Bottom Right Mullion - Left Panel Glass - Right Panel Solid
2 - Top Left to Bottom Right Mullion - Right Panel Glass - Left Panel Solid
3 - Top Right to Bottom Left Mullion - Left Panel Glass - Right Panel Solid
4 - Top Right to Bottom Left Mullion - Right Panel Glass - Left Panel Solid
5 - Top Left to Bottom Right Mullion - Right Panel Glass - Left Panel Glass
6 - Top Right to Bottom Left Mullion - Right Panel Glass - Left Panel Glass

Now all i have do is go through and swap out each panel. It works great in the curved parts too.

Thanks again.

Not really on-topic but while i was testing the families i changed the names of a few of the family types and loaded the family back into the project. Now i see the old names and new names in the element type list.

How can i remove the ones that don't exist anymore?

In the project browser, just righ-click on the types you don't want and select Delete.

Cliff, is "combined" CW one CW or two CW? got a feeling i'm going to learn new trick ...

Two CWs..........

no new tricks really.
