View Full Version : How to get site condition guidelines to show up on every floor?

Completely new to Revit. We are in SD trying to locate a core and structural grid. We have site conditions (sewer lines and Amtrak tunnels) that need to be taken in consideration when locating above. We’ve been told one way to do this is using reference planes but these sitelines are not straight, so that would take too many reference planes to document all these site lines.
Have tried drawing the sitelines as 2-d lines, grouping them but Revit won’t let me copy them from level to level.
Coming from a cad background, the easiest thing I can think of, is to do a Autocad background and link it into the revit model on every level. Thoughts of how best to do this?

You're on the right track.
If the site information resides in a cad file, you can link it and not check the "current view only" checkbox in the dialog. The link will then show up on all levels (views).

Okay, I brought it on to the ground level but I can't see it on the upper levels. I went to Imported Categories, under VG, to make sure its checked and yet I still can't see it on the upper levels. Do I need to copy this drawing onto each level?

In the link cad drawing dialog box, be sure the checkbox "current view only" (bottom left of dialog) is un-checked. Then you should see it in all views.

Yup its unchecked. I still cannot see it on the floors above..

You may have to temporarily create working views for each floor level with view depth set to your lowest level. Then you should be able to see the CAD file in your working views for all levels.

Would having the site boundary lines on its own plan view help? Then use it as an UNDERLAY on the view properties?

View Range for the upper floors is probably not set to "unlimited" depth so you aren't seeing all the way down to the "ground" plane where the DWG is located. Look at View Properties>View Range, and set the Depth to Unlimited, (or at least set it to the level the DWG is on) for each of the upper floors.

I've also used a graphically customized Property Line to represent things such as setbacks, easements, etc. They will appear in your views by category, so still leaves Underlay for other purposes.

Actually, I just did a bit of experimenting. Site Boundaries are available on all levels if checked under Visibility/Graphics without any underlay necessary.
